Alive and Well Woman

The overall focus of the Alive and Well Woman is wellness: how to gain and maintain a level of wellness across all areas of life.

Alive and Well Woman is based on Dr. Gerhard Hettler’s six dimensions of wellness: social, intellectual, spiritual, physical, emotional, and occupation, created in 1976. The objective is to strive for balance across these six inter-related dimensions.

The “wellness wheel” is useful in conceptualizing both the areas of wellness and balance. Imagine a wheel with six spokes, each spoke representing one dimension of wellness. Starting at the hub (zero), you rate your level of wellness on each spoke on a scale from zero to ten by placing a dot or mark on each spoke. Next, join the dots, moving from one spoke to the next. If the dots line up to create a more or less smooth circle, you have a balanced wellness wheel. If not, you are in for a bumpy ride!
